Why Not the Nose?
Time: Sunday, March 1, 1:00pm - 1:30pm
Location: Weston Game Lab Classroom
John Anderson & Tammy Burnstock
Can't be there in person?
A participatory scented “Show, Smell and Tell” demonstrating how storytelling with scents can engage ALL of our senses and heighten emotion.
“New Media” at its most interesting is experienced across multiple sensory modalities: visual, auditory, haptic (touch), somatosensory (physical sensation), and olfactory (smell).
Smell, our most primitive sense, is memory, emotion and THE final frontier in opening the door to full sensory engagement in immersive experiences.
The scented documentary “In Glorious Smell-O-Vision!” explores the secret history and promising future of scented cinema.
John is an Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated Director, Editor and Executive Producer. Based in Chicago, this is his third nose-related project, following work with Pete Townshend and Tiny Tim. His latest release is the blues documentary “Horn From The Heart: The Paul Butterfield Story”, available online and on DVD/Blu-ray.
Tammy is an Australian scented storyteller. She recently event-produced a Scent of Mystery (1960) revival in participatory Smell-O-Vision! for the National Science and Media Museum in the UK, for the Danish Film Institute in Copenhagen and for the TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood.
