Good Vibrations: Scrappy Kinetic Sculptures

[Workshop]
Time: Saturday, February 29 ⋅ 12:30pm – 2:00pm

Location: Hack Arts Lab

Presenter:
Jenna Boyles

Workshop Description:

Create a small vibrating artwork of your own assembly and design with a mini-motor (the same kind used in smartphones!) In this hands-on workshop you will learn to solder, make a DIY switch, and sew with regular and conductive thread. Participants will gain an understanding of how a circuit works and how vibration can be used to create movement, sound, and sensation. Repurposed objects such as bottle caps, toy parts, fabric scraps, and more will be provided. No prior experience necessary. Space is limited.

Presenter's Bio

Jenna Boyles aka Jenna Junk is an e-waste hacker who gleans sound from techno-trash. Playing on the sensitivity between squishy-body and hard-wired machine, she rewires electronics and creates soft e-textiles as a way to articulate the ubiquity and resonance of unwanted things.
